East County Rising, an organization rooted in East Multnomah County, is seeking motivated Field Organizers to support the ECR aligned Campaigns. Our mission is to engage, energize, and elevate communities from 82nd Avenue to the eastern edge of Multnomah County by advancing policies and civic participation that better reflect the region’s diverse and progressive residents.

Position Title: Field Organizer 

Job Duration: Temporary, part-time, seasonal position October 21st- Nov 3rd.

Compensation: $23.00–$26.00 per hour, depending on experience, language pay differential for Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Arabic, Ukrainian. Paid 1 time after work period is over. 

Hours: Up to 8 hour shifts, 40 hours weekly. Possibility of overtime.  

Benefits: $5 travel reimbursement for each day worked. This is a temporary part-time position and does not include health insurance, paid time off (PTO), or other employee benefits.

Phone Reimbursement: $25 phone reimbursement after completing 8 shifts. 

Reports To: Field Director/Program Manager – Helena Guerrero Sullivan

FIELD ORGANIZER – JOB DESCRIPTION

Field Organizers will engage Portland residents at doors, public spaces, and neighborhoods to educate voters about the campaign. The ideal candidates will be strong communicators, team players, and committed to respectful community engagement.

Primary Responsibilities

Please note: No experience is necessary, and we welcome first-time applicants interested in community outreach and civic engagement. We care more about your ability to connect with people and get the job done than whether you have previous experience.

Communication

Learn and follow campaign messaging, answer questions from voters, and engage community members with a personable and professional attitude.

Reporting and Review

Debrief after door knocking activities, report positive and negative interactions, document any issues encountered in the field, and communicate regularly with the Program Manager.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to quickly adapt to changing campaign priorities and outreach environments.

• VAN (Voter Action Network) experience and using technology for tracking and reporting. 

• Experience working with diverse communities, including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities, youth, and low-income communities.

• Experience in canvassing, community outreach, customer service, political campaigns, sales, or other public-facing roles.

• Strong written communication skills for reporting field activities and incidents.

• Basic administrative experience, including completing and submitting timesheets and other required paperwork.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years old.

• Be able to walk and stand for extended periods while engaging community members throughout Portland.

• Be able to carry up to ten pounds of campaign materials and water.

• Must have valid work authorization to be employed in the United States.

• Be enthusiastic about community engagement and civic participation.
